Wayne McGregor and Random Dance were at UCSD for a three week residency program working with the Cognitive Science department with concerns to research of movement in relation to cognitive reasoning. It actually is way more complicated than my single sentence, and the whole article can be found here... which details the experience of the dance company in conjunction with the science work.
Art Power, UCSD, asked me if I would be interested in shooting Random Dance while they were here, and after submitting my dance images to the Company, they asked me to document the visit. It was a two week intensive shoot for me wherein I took several thousand images all under difficult lighting conditions. One of the shoots took place at a CalIT TV studio, which was contransty, dark, and loaded with bright spotlights on a black floor. The image that was published in the LA Times was shot at the Mandeville Theatre which was certainly more conducive to a more even lighting situation.
All in all it was a great two weeks experience for me. I learned a lot on this shoot. It always seems to boil down to communication and a clear vision of what a client needs.
So the story goes: while in Paris with Lara she got violently ill with food poisoning. After the episode was over she still experienced pains in her side to the point where she couldn't leave our flat. After we returned to London she was able to visit a doctor - diagnosis: pregnant! I was there for it all! My trip to london was fortitudinous on many levels, but to be there for the start of it all was something special.
Baby hat was knitted with a wool/acrylic blend, and an added yarn of Baby Silk Mohair to the mix for the pale fuzz. The blanket was made to Lara's specification: loud, 70s, bright. I complied with the request :)
Five Faces of Me @ Grossmont College, last night, for the closing/opening of the exhibit. each image is 16x20". The collection of five images are all from the same data file, simply five different interpretations of "me." It's more a commentary on self-portraiture, the notion of cyborg-selves, the possibility that any one of these images could plausibly be "me." It's also a commentary on the avatar and the alter-ego. If you could create a notion of self which creation would that be? And one out of the five IS me....so one image is actually untouched.
When I got lost driving around in my hood I found this house with a crazy topiary for a front yard. it's very impressive I have to admit, and i never knew with someone with so much talent lays dormant within the confines of Mission Hills.
snowstorm. denver. stuck.
I cannot take credit for this photo. It was sent to me via email and who knows how long it has been circulating amongst the doggie community. Just had to post it because I couldn't stop laughing!
The body of the text read as follows:
If you are an owner of a dog that belongs to a 'dangerous breed' category and you have a small child please take this as a warning
DO NOT leave your dog with the child unattended under any circumstances.
Only a moment was enough for the following to happen
Post-It Notes adopted the cool idea to borrow the notion our beloved ARROW RING! Steve found the post-it notes at the campus bookstore and he quickly capitalized on the notion of arrow ring love by buying a pack and getting directly to work highlighting the effective nature of arrow symbolism. Way to go, Steve!
I do think the $5 bowl of black bean soup was delicious and lovely all at the same time. Full of flavor. lick your lips good. it was good. I would pay $5 for it again, if for instance there wasn't a one hour wait and I didn't have drunk P.B. type wanna-be hipsters hanging out and pocking my back with their fucking purses. I would certainly most consume this sopa again.
La Salsa was extremely entertaining, though small portions, you got four flavors without even asking: Hot, Super Hot, Mayonaise Hot and Salsa Verde. It was all good, and being a hot salsa fan myself, I was accepting of their plankboard of salsa to make up for the bitches from P.B.
With that said, if you simply want to be entertained by really nice decor and a multi-media wall of MARY herself with rotating rays of heaven delight, then this is your spot. If you like noise and bitchy-bitches and pousers, then this is your place. It would be nice if in a year when all the hoopla settles and the normal people from South Park can visit their neighborhood restaurants, then this will be the place to go for that $5 bowl of Black Bean Soup and a plate TJ Tacos to split with your friend.
p.s. they don't take reservations save for parties 10 or more. and there you go!
